- Chincoteague
Chincoteague is famous for its herds of wild ponies and the annual pony swim from Assateague to Chincoteague. Interestingly, the ponies do not live on Chincoteague Island, but rather, on nearby Assateague Island.
Legend has it that the ponies are decendants of survivors of a Spanish galleon that sank on its way to Spain during a storm in 1750 off the east coast. The fact is that no one knows for sure how the ponies got there.
Assateague is also the home of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague National Seashore.
- Northwest Arizona
This is the third album from my workshop with Arizona Highways Magazine. All are locations within the general vicinity of Page. It really was a great time. I will be going back to Arizona again.
- Arizona's Slot Canyons
This album contains pictures from three slot canyons; Upper Antelope, Lower Antelope and Secret canyon. These canyons are on Navajo Nation land and access is controlled by the Navajo. It was an exciting visit and a real thrill to photograph.
Clicking on the picture will create a full screen view and move the comments to the left. Music has been added to the slideshow.
- Background - Arizona Slot Canyons
Arizona's Slot Canyons photo tour, sponsored by Arizona Highways Magazine. This is a "snapshot" album of the folks I shared this adventure with.
- St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands (USVI)
St Thomas is an ideal getaway from winter cold with near perfect weather. The island is clean, the people are friendly and there is something here for everyone. Driving in St Thomas is a real challenge with narrow, mountainous, twisting roads and few directional signs. There is the added issue of driving on the left side of the road.
St Thomas, as everywhere in the Caribbean, has an oversupply of jewelry stores and other tourist shops. Walking the back streets of Charlotte Amalie I noticed a number of closed shops. I had the feeling that, despite the daily hordes of cruisers, business in town was not great.
Photo opportunities were limited because of the difficulty of getting around the island, parking problems, and the fact that the island is so heavily populated.
- Downeast Maine
Fall is a good time to visit Maine. Most of the tourists are gone by October. There are a variety of locations here: Acadia National Park, the remainder of Mount Desert Island, Granberry Island, Schoodic Peninsula, Birch Harbor and Winter Harbor. A couple videos of the coast are included at the end. The wind was blowing so hard that it wasn't possible to get steady videos even with the camera on a tripod.
- Maryland Renaissance Festival - 2011
- Alaska
Cruise from Seattle, through inside passage to Glacier Bay. A cruise is easy but not the way to go if your interest is photography.
- National Gallery of Art
This is one of my favorite series. Best viewed as a slide show with music.
- All Balboa Weekend - 2011
11th Annual ABW in Cleveland, Ohio. All Balboa Weekend is the premier Balboa event in the US. These pictures were taken during a Jack & Jill contest.
- Yosemite Valley
Yosemite Valley is world famous for its beauty. It is a very crowded place with a large percentage of foreign tourists. The valley is only one mile wide and 7 miles long. It comprises only 1% of Yosemite National Park, yet it draws 95% of the visitors. .
Best viewed as a slide show with music. I'll add captions at a later date.
- Yosemite - Glacier Point
I'll eventually have three Yosemite albums. This is the first, pictures taken along Glacier Point Road and at Glacier Point. I had other pictures planned but snow keep me off the trails. I am happy with what I did get.
I was disappointed that the other major route I wanted to use, Tioga Road, was closed by the late Spring storm and it wasn't expected to be opened until July; something to consider if you are planning a trip to Yosemite. I tried to time my trip for maximum water flow and I got that!
- Collegiate Rendezvous at Glen Echo
A special weekend at the Spanish Ballroom in Glen Echo Park, Maryland. Guest dancers Ben Ricard and Yuval Hod. Music, if you use the slideshow, "Happy Feet".
- Nassau, The Bahamas
There are many places in the Caribbean that are more attractive, but this was an easy trip and a nice break from winter.
- Lewis Ginter
Lewis Ginter Botonical Gardens is 100 miles south of Washington on the northen edge of Richmond. This was my first visit on a cold winter day. Beautiful. Looking forward to a return visit in the spring.
- Mayland Renaissance Festival
This is a fun album -- specifically designed as a slideshow.
Music: "Back in Time" (Huey Levis & the News)
"Argeers" (Cambiata)
Crank up the sound!
- Moab, Utah
Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and the vicinity around Moab. A quck preview of this fascinating landscape from sunrise to sunset and moonrise.
Music: Main Theme from a "Fistful of Dollars" (Ennio Morricone)
Main Theme from "Buffalo Girls"
- Monument Valley
You've seen Monument Valley. It has been featured in many forms of media since the filming of "Stage Coach" in 1939, starring John Wayne. Monument Valley is eerie, desolate, and awe inspiring. Very few tourists. Best viewed as a slideshow.
Music - Main theme from "High Plains Drifter".
- St. Maartin
This island has two names: St Maartin (Dutch) and St Martin (French). The island is divided roughly 60/40 between France and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I stayed on the french side and it was very quiet - too quiet.
- Quebec
Quebec City is a real treat. A wonderful place just to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere.
Music - "Fibee de verre" (Paris Combo)
- "I Have My Eye on You"
Just for Fun. Works well as a slideshow.
- Great Falls and the C&O Canal
Great Falls is a small National Park in Northern Fairfax County, fifteen miles from Washington DC. The C&O canal is on the Maryland side of the Potomac and one can spent a relaxing afternoon just walking the towpath. At Great Falls the Potomac cascades over a series of 20 foot falls, falling a total of 76 feet in elevation over a distance of less than one mile, making the Great Falls the steepest fall line of any river in the eastern United States. Then, the river builds up speed and force as it flows through the narrow Mathor gap. The pictures were taken in Summer, Fall and Winter.
This is my first attempt to integrate short videos with stills. It works (sometimes) when viewed as a slide show.
- Horses
The first 11 pictures were taken at Frying Pan Park, a Fairfax County park, in Herndon, Virginia. This is a timeless album as I will be adding pictures as time goes on.
- Orchids
Special display of orchids at Lewis Ginter Botonical Gardens in Richmond. Goes well as a slideshow with "Flight of Fantasy" by Yanni
- Photo Poems
I've seen this done several times. In neither case did the poems rhyme. I thought I'd give it a try. I may add to this album from time to time.
